Sevenoaks District Council services

Most services are run by the District Council (www.sevenoaks.gov.uk) which also covers Swanley and Edenbridge.  They are responsible for deciding planning applications.  They are also responsible for:

  • environmental health
  • food hygiene
  • pollution control
  • the dog warden
  • rubbish collection
  • recycling collections
  • cleaning the streets
  • building control
  • licensing hours of pubs
  • markets
  • parking
  • free bus passes for pensioners
  • council tax
  • housing benefits
  • helping homeless people
  • energy conservation
  • safe neighbourhoods
  • the register of voters
  • gypsy sites
  • floods and other emergency plans
  • toilets
  • grants to local groups 
They also own the sports centre & swimming pool (which is privately run).

Sevenoaks Town Council services

The Town Council (www.sevenoakstown.gov.uk) only covers Sevenoaks and has limited responsibility.  They are responsible for initially considering planning applications.  They are also responsible for:

  • most small open spaces including Rheinbach Gardens at the top of Bradbourne Rd
  • the Vine cricket ground & gardens in Dartford Rd
  • the Rugby Club playing fields off Seal Hollow Rd
  • the town cemetery in Bat & Ball
  • allotments in Quakers Hall Lane
  • Raleys Community Gym off Seal Hollow Rd
  • the tourist office in the Stag Theatre
  • the community centre at Bat & Ball
  • some footpaths in the town
  • some street lights on private roads
  • some benches
  • some litter bins

Kent County Council services

The County Council (www.kent.gov.uk) is responsible for county-wide services such as:

  • schools and the Adult Education Institute in Bradbourne Rd
  • highways including street lights and traffic
  • libraries including Sevenoaks Library, Riverhead Branch Library and St Johns Branch Library in Kennedy Gardens
  • trading standards
  • social services
  • strategic planning
  • the recycling tip on the A25 between Bessels Green and Sundridge
